Engagement Synopsis

The South Bend Community School Corporation is seeking assistance in identifying predictors of student graduation and post-secondary success. The corporation is in the process of developing early warning dashboards for principals and school administrators based upon national education research and commonly accepted student performance indicators (attendance, discipline, and student grades). We believe there would be significant value in a research collaboration to: a) Determining the local validity and thresholds for key indicators. b) Explore additional predictors of graduation (assessment results, student mobility, student demographics). c) Identiy how predictive thresholds vary across schools (high school and middle school). d*) Determine whether graduation predictors extend to post-secondary enrollment and persistence. The collaboration would rely upon longitudinal information housed within the district's Student Information System. Component d) is a potential extension that would rely on matching district information with post-secondary enrollment data captured by the National Student Clearinghouse.
